More human than zombie

I'm delighted to report that yesterday's massage has proved pretty much life-changing! Not only do I feel able to move much more easily, and able to find a position to lie down in bed that doesn't hurt, I slept really well last night. I slept solidly for a full 5 1/2hr stretch before I needed to get up and pee, and I then dozed on and off for a further 4hrs until 9am. I feel like a different person - or rather, I feel like me again, instead of this automaton.
I shall definitely be booking further massages for the next few weeks until Pip is born. Anything to maintain some semblance of feeling like a real person!

Hi! How did you find your massage therapist? I went for a massage last weekend, and while it was good, it was also a bit frustrating. The therapist did use a preggo pillow, which was great while I was on my belly, but then I had to get off the table so she could move it out of the way. It was her first time using it, so it was awkward, and she also didn't know how hard she could press so it was a rather weak massage. I don't think she was familiar with doing prenatal massages, either, because she didn't really focus on any of the spots that seemed obvious to me. It was a pretty generic massage. Did you ask them anything in particular when you set your appointment to make sure you got the right person for the job?

How frustrating Momai! I can't stand weak massage - it feels like such a waste of time unless I can really feel some pain whilst the massage is being done!

My massage therapist works at the same practice as my chiropractor, who recommended that I could benefit from massage therapy in between chiropractic treatments. So I was fairly confident that she would be OK. I was really pleased however to discover that she used a decent amount of pressure with the massage - that's the bit I always dread about going to someone new, in case it's really weak. There are only so many times that you can say "I like really firm pressure" before it all starts getting a bit embarrassing.

I had to get off the table for the removal of the pregnancy pillow as well; I think that's probably fairly normal. As far as focussing on specific areas, I was clear at the beginning of the appointment that it was my lower back/neck and shoulders that were the areas where I was really suffering, so she pretty much concentrated on those for the entire hour, as they were in quite a state. She didn't do any work on my legs/arms/belly etc. although maybe when I go next time there will be more time to do these as well.

I think that you have to be pretty vocal at the start of any massage session as to what you want out of it - otherwise you don't get what you want/need, and end up tense from the frustration of wasting your money!
